Areva said on Monday that South Korea's Hydro and Nuclear Power had agreed to take a stake in a unit of the French state-owned nuclear group.

KHNP, which generates 40 percent of South Korea's electricity, will take a 2.5 percent stake in Societe d'Enrichissement du Tricastin, which runs the Georges Besse II plant in southern France, Areva said in a statement.

Areva has said it would use industrial partnerships as a way to help finance its multi-billion-euro investment needs.

In March, Areva said that Japan-based Kansai Urban Banking Corp and Sojitz Corp had agreed to acquire a joint 2.5 percent stake in its Georges Besse II plant for an undisclosed amount.

The deal followed the acquisition by French utility GDF Suez of a 5 percent stake in the same plant, which was launched in 2006.

Areva's activities cover the full nuclear cycle, from uranium mining and enrichment to nuclear reactors and spent nuclear fuel recycling.
